Take Action with PBG!
Write for PBG!
Are you a girl between the ages of 14 and 22 who:
- loves to write
- has a sense of humor, digs blogging and social media; and, most importantly,
- is irritated, insulted, tired of, (insert your adjective here!) the dull, unimaginative, stale way media represents girls, relationships, girls’ interests, etc?
If so, blog for PBG! We’re always looking for some fierce gals to mix things up on the PBG blog and our team of bloggers loves to have new writers join them.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Post every once in a while as a guest blogger by sending your submission to pbg@hghw.org.
OR
2. Apply online to become a regular PBG blogger by filling out this short application and sending Jamie a sample of your writing.
Start a Petition
There are many ways to be an activist. One great way to create change is by using many voices. We've been successful collaborating with Hardy Girls Healthy Women using petitions to pull misogynistic t-shirts off the shelves at Kmart in the past, as well as collaborating with SPARK to call a meeting with LEGO representatives for them to include more girls in their advertisements and product lines, and to stop boxing in girls with stereotypes in the new Friends series. We recommend visiting Change.org to learn about starting a petition--it's pretty simple--you just need to fill in who you want to petition, what you want them to do, and why this is important.
Address the Usual Offenders
Here at PBG, we have quite the list of "usual offenders" whose misogynistic, stereotyping ads we spoof, and who continuously market negative messages to our youth. Take a few minutes out of your day to channel the frustration and anger you have about what we're being sold towards creating change. Click here to download a list of the "usual offenders," with their mailing addresses and phone numbers.
Spoof an Ad
Don't forget to take action by becoming a PBG user and spoofing our ad contest of the week! To spoof an ad means to use your wit, humor and satire to talk back to the media--and to show them what messages you think they should be selling instead. Take a look at our ad gallery for ideas!
