Coastal Studies for Girls

The country's first residential science and leadership semester school for 10th grade girls. Coastal Studies girls have a love for learning and discovery, an adventurous spirit, and a desire to challenge themselves. Pull on your clam boots and backpacks to explore our classroom -- Maine's tidal pools and mountains.

The stunning, rocky coast of Maine is a wonderful place for a young woman to explore and grow. Coastal Studies for Girls brings students from Maine and around the country to our coastal campus for the fall or spring term of your sophomore year. While our unique focus is on science and leadership, we also offer core classes to stay current at your sending school. Classes include mathematics, English, history and language in the mornings and science and leadership classes after lunch. Fridays are often dedicated to research with field trips to local sites or research centers to collect and record data. Students explore tide pools and marsh flats, do hands-on research of the local marine environment, and expand leadership potential in a supportive and challenging environment. On weekends, enjoy the outdoors through kayaking, camping, snow shoeing, rock climbing, and other activities that teach leadership and self-reliance skills.

A Coastal Studies' girl asks questions of herself and the natural environment, and enjoys seeking answers by chasing her curiosity and putting the work in to get there. We work hard and play hard and welcome young women that would thrive in our unique, tightly-knit, seaside community.
